Canada Border Services Agency issues alert about man wanted for Maine mass shooting

The Canada Border Services Agency has issued an "armed and dangerous" alert to its officers along the Canada-US border, warning them to be on the lookout for a man suspected of fatally shooting at least 18 people in southern Maine.

The shootings were reported Wednesday night in Lewiston, about 260 kilometers southwest of the New Brunswick border.

Residents in southern Maine were told to lock their doors and stay inside as the massive search for the knife continued today.

The CBSA says it is working with Canadian and U.S. law enforcement partners, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the RCMP, to protect Canada's borders against any threats or attempts at illegal entry.

The Canada Border Agency said an "armed and dangerous patrol - firearms" alert had been sent through an internal system to all of its officers, adding that all points of entry along the Canada-US border were open.
