Dozens of Indian students in fake admission-letter scandal found to be genuine victims
Dozens of Indian international students have been identified as the real victims of fraud, not the perpetrators, as federal authorities provided their first glimpse of the possible extent of admissions fraud.
At a briefing to a parliamentary committee this week, select immigration and border control officials said they had investigated 103 of the 285 cases of concern since a joint team was set up in June by the immigration minister to investigate the claims. Formed on fake letters provided by unscrupulous immigration consultants. The number of cases represents the first official figure on the scope of the issue, and officials do not expect significant growth in the future.
