Public safety drug ban in B.c
In a new move, the illegal use of drugs in public places in Canada's British Columbia province has been re-criminalized following criticism. Canada's federal government has accepted the province's request to scrap parts of a pilot drug decriminalization plan. According to this decision, the police will be allowed to intervene if they see the use of drugs in public spaces such as hospitals, bus stations and parks. The decision has led to concerns about increasing drug users' concealment and increasing the risk of fatal overdoses. Initially, the decriminalization of small amounts of drugs such as heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine was allowed, but these changes came after concerns from the British Columbia Nurses Union about the health of health workers following their exposure to toxic drugs.
