Weather warnings issued for nearly all of Canada's provinces and territories

Almost all Canadian provinces and territories are under weather warnings ahead of the weekend.

Environment Canada has issued warnings for parts of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario. Warnings have also been issued for Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and all three territories of Canada.

The only areas not currently under a warning or statement are New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

east coast

Special weather statements have been issued for most of Newfoundland and are expected to experience "heavy snow, rain and strong winds" through the weekend.

Snow is expected to begin on Sunday and wintry conditions will continue into Monday morning.

Quebec

Nine parts of Quebec are under weather warnings, including northern Ivojevik and James Bay, where blizzard conditions are expected.

Ontario

Wide swaths of southwestern and northern Ontario are under severe winter weather warnings. Some areas are expected to receive up to 60 cm of snow by Saturday evening.

Prairies

In Manitoba, Bruche and Tadwell Lake areas are under "severe cold" warnings. The air temperature in these areas reaches minus 35 degrees, and with the wind blowing, the emotional temperature may reach minus 50.

Saskatchewan faces similar warnings, with temperatures near minus 45 degrees in the north and minus 40 degrees in the south.

Alberta

Cold and snow warnings have been issued for northern, east-central and southern Alberta.

British Columbia

Three warnings have been issued in this province, including strong winds, snowfall and extreme cold.

Northern areas

In Nunavut, severe blizzards are forecast in some areas. Also, the temperature felt in parts of the Northwest and Yukon regions may reach minus 55 degrees and these conditions will continue at least until the end of the week.
