Weather warnings issued in 7 provinces and territories
Wintry conditions prompted warnings to be issued in seven Canadian provinces and territories on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Environment Canada has issued warnings for parts of Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon.
In these areas, there are warnings for extreme cold, snow storms, strong winds, heavy snowfall and heavy rains.
Newfoundland and Labrador Adverse conditions are expected in Newfoundland and Labrador, from strong winds to significant snow and rain in areas such as Corner Brook, Gros Morne and Red Bay. While some warnings were canceled or downgraded Thursday morning, special weather statements were issued for several areas, including St. John's, Gander and the Avalon Peninsula.
Quebec 23 weather warnings, watches and alerts have been issued in the province of Quebec until 2:00 p.m. Thursday. Some areas have been warned that up to 25cm of snow could fall by Friday morning, including Grandby, Broome and Mount Orford. A hurricane warning has been issued for the coast from Pointe de Mont to Gallix, and stormy conditions are forecast for the Eugeoique region.
Ontario Warnings issued Thursday morning in Ontario are centered on the area between Lakes Horn and Ontario. These warnings are due to lake effect snowstorms that may bring up to 60 centimeters of snow by Friday night.
Nunavut A cold weather warning is in place for the Resolute region of Nunavut where temperatures could drop to -55 degrees Celsius.
Northwest Territories Warnings have been issued for parts of the Northwest Territories, including along the MacKenzie River and North Slave Lake and the Lutsel Caye area, which has been warned that extreme cold with temperatures near -50 degrees could continue in these areas. find
British Columbia A severe cold warning has been issued for the Day Lake region of British Columbia, where temperatures may drop to -45 to -50 degrees Celsius.
A severe cold warning has also been issued for most of the Yukon. Severe cold will continue in this region until Sunday.
