Thousands of NÜTRL cups recalled due to illness reports
Several reports of adverse health effects of NÜTRL brand mugs have been published, following which these mugs were recalled in Canada earlier this month. The recall notice issued by the Canadian Ministry of Health states that about 33,000 glasses were distributed to consumers as a promotional gift at various liquor commissions and retailers across the country between April 29 and May 17, 2024.
In the initial notice sent on May 19, the recall of the glass was due to a manufacturing defect that caused the release of chemicals, but in the new notice, the reason for the recall is health damage.
"Based on tests conducted to date, some glasses may contain a chemical solution trapped between the inner walls of the glass, which contains some sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid," the new notice reads. When the glass is filled with liquid, these acids are released which can create potential hazards and cause serious injury. The interaction of these pollutants and the glass can also lead to increased levels of iron, chromium, and nickel."
In this announcement, it is stated that a wide range of health problems are caused by the consumption of these chemicals, including burning of the lips, tongue, throat, stomach and/or other tissue damage, and nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhea.
These chemicals may also cause skin contact reactions such as blisters, burns, pain, and redness.
Since May 23, 2014, it has received reports from consumers who experienced various symptoms after using the recalled product. The most common symptoms were headache, nausea, stomach pain and/or diarrhea.
