New York state resident charged in fatal QEW flying-wheel crash
Police have arrested a 45-year-old man after a wheel crashed into a bus on the Queen Elizabeth Highway in St. Catharines on Friday, killing one person and injuring three others.
At about 3:30 p.m., a wheel came off a passenger van, collided with a pickup truck, and then went through the window of a passenger bus, according to provincial police. A 48-year-old man from Toronto who was riding the bus died at the scene and three other passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries. On Saturday, provincial police charged a 45-year-old man from New York State with operating an unsafe motor vehicle. According to investigators, he was the driver of the minivan from which the wheel came off.
