Canada's new immigration strategy to be announced in federal budget
Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that the government will present a new plan to review the country's immigration policies in Tuesday's federal budget.
The decision comes as public support for increasing immigration has waned in recent months and the previous government lowered its immigration targets last year.
Carney said in a speech at the University of Ottawa:

> "We are controlling the immigration process to align it with the needs and real capacity of the country."

The new plan is expected to focus more on the entry of skilled workers and reduce pressure on the housing market and social services, experts said.
