Services that you can receive online from ServiceOntario
If you decide to visit ServiceOntario offices, take some time to check because there is a high chance that you can receive your services online.
Whether you need to renew your vehicle license plate or driver's license, buy a new or used vehicle, or apply for a marriage license, you no longer need to search for one of the ServiceOntario offices on the internet. Many of these services, along with numerous others, are now available online as part of the Ontario government's initiative to provide better, faster, and more convenient services to residents of Ontario. Currently, ServiceOntario offers 55 online services, reducing the need for residents to wait in queues. These online services also provide reminders for renewals, so you can opt-in for email, text, or phone notifications when it's time to renew.
Additionally, the Ontario government has introduced a service for booking in-person appointments at ServiceOntario offices. Depending on the type of service, there may be an online option available to access it. We will look at changes, updates, registrations, and renewals.
For drivers and vehicles, Ontario drivers can renew their driver's licenses or change addresses online. There is also an option to access driving records and fines. Another essential service available online is the renewal of vehicle license plates, which only takes five minutes and is free. However, failing to renew the vehicle license plate on time may result in a fine of up to $1,000. Other services still require drivers to visit ServiceOntario offices in person, such as obtaining a driver's license, renewing a license for individuals over 80, replacing lost, stolen, or damaged licenses, or replacing an out-of-province or out-of-country license. Buying or selling new or used vehicles at provincial dealerships can be done online. The Digital Dealership Registration system allows dealerships to complete the ownership transfer process online. Other online services offered by ServiceOntario related to vehicles include obtaining personalized license plates, accessing vehicle history reports, and obtaining vehicle records.
For health cards, registries, and certificates, you can renew your health card online, but if a photo replacement is required, you must visit in person. If you have applied for OHIP, your first health card, or a change in health card information, you need to visit a ServiceOntario office in person. Services related to birth, marriage, and health certificates are also available online. If you live in any of the following six municipalities, you can obtain a marriage license online:
- City of Kenora
- Town of Cobourg
- City of Kingston
- Town of Ingersoll
- Township of Uxbridge
- City of Timmins
Furthermore, obtaining a hunting or fishing license and an Outdoors Card is available online. Private investigators and security guards can also apply for their licenses online.
