Trudeau and his wife are separating after 18 years of married life
Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, are separating after 18 years together. In a brief statement posted on his Instagram, the Prime Minister announced that they have decided to part ways after difficult and meaningful conversations.
Trudeau wrote in his message: "We will always remain a close-knit family, and we continue to have deep love and respect for each other and for the work we've accomplished together. We are devoted to raising our children in a loving and supportive environment." Sophie also shared the same message on her page. Trudeau asked all Canadians to respect the family's privacy for the sake of their children's well-being.
The couple has three children: Xavier, aged 15, Ella-Grace, aged 14, and Hadrien, aged 9. The Prime Minister's Office confirmed the separation, stating that both the Prime Minister and his wife are ensuring that all legal and ethical steps are followed. They are focused on providing a safe and caring environment for their children and will both maintain a constant presence in their lives.
Justin Trudeau and Sophie Gregoire got married on May 25, 2005, in Montreal. Last year, Sophie talked about sunny days and heavy storms in a post on the anniversary of their wedding.
