Canadian Health Minister Says US Health Institutions Can No Longer Be Trusted
Canadian Health Minister Says U.S. Health Agencies Can No Longer Be Trusted
Health Minister Marjorie Michel has said she can no longer trust U.S. health agencies as reliable partners.
Michel said Canada has traditionally looked to the United States as a source of health and scientific information, but that has changed since Donald Trump took office.
An editorial in the Canadian Medical Association Journal in July alleged that the Trump administration is destroying the country’s public health and scientific research infrastructure.
The administration has slashed funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which collect and analyze public health data.
An advisory committee appointed by Trump’s health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., recently recommended halting hepatitis B vaccinations for infants and considering changes to the childhood vaccination schedule.
Michel says Canada is still following developments in the US, but is looking for trusted partners who are science-based on issues like vaccines.
