Taylor Swift fans caused a 2.3 magnitude earthquake in Seattle
Each of Taylor Swift's fans has jumped at least once with the song Shake it off, now imagine what happens when 7,200 people jump and dance together?!
When the 33-year-old Swift held concerts at Lumen Field in Seattle last weekend, her fans caused an activity that, according to seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, was equivalent to a 2.3 Richter earthquake.
Caplan stated in an interview with the Seattle Times that the seismic activity, recorded during Swift's three-and-a-half-hour concert on two nights, occurred during the performances of the songs Shake it Off and Blank Space. Swift's concert broke the previous record set during an American football playoff game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New Orleans Saints. The earthquake caused by that game was famously known as the "Beast Quake," and its magnitude was estimated at 2 Richter. The seismic activity at Swift's concert was 0.3 Richter stronger than the Beast Quake. Tickets for both nights of Swift's concert on July 22nd and 23rd were sold out, and an estimated 72,171 people attended the concerts. Swift's Her Era Tour concert at Lumen Field in Seattle surpassed the previous record set by the Irish band U2, where 70,000 people attended the concert in 2011. Swift is also the first artist to have sold out tickets for two consecutive nights.
