It could feel like 35 in Toronto today as heat and humidity returns
After a day off, the heat has returned to Toronto, with scattered showers likely late Friday. Environment Canada is forecasting a high of 28 degrees Celsius today, but the humidity will make it feel as hot as 35 degrees. The forecaster says there will be a mix of sun and cloud in the city for most of Friday, although rain is expected to start this evening and there is a risk of thunderstorms late tonight and early Saturday morning.
"This weather is like a firework that just needs a spark," CP24 meteorologist Bill Coulter said. All this energy is waiting to explode, waiting to erupt, but what you need is a trigger or a spark, which will come in the form of an air front late tonight and early morning. This front packs heat and humidity like fireworks, and you'll see the sky erupt from 11pm to 6am. "After that, there will be only scattered showers and by around 2pm on Saturday, the weather should clear up."
Warmer weather has returned after the heat eased on Thursday, when the temperature reached 23 degrees Celsius. Typically, the daily high in late August is 24 degrees Celsius. Coulter said residents can expect to see more through the Labor Day weekend. Environment Canada says the temperature will reach 26 degrees Celsius on Saturday, but due to the humidity, it will feel hot to 31 degrees. On Sunday, the temperature will only reach 22 degrees Celsius and on Monday it will reach 20 degrees Celsius.
