Request to rename the downtown route to Taylor Swift Way
A proposal to rename the Nathan Phillips-Rogers Center to Taylor Swift Way during the pop star's six November concerts has been submitted to Toronto City Council for consideration.
According to media reports, Deputy Mayor Jennifer McCloy has tabled a proposal that would see signs honoring Taylor Swift along John Street and Queen Street throughout the month of November (when the Eras tour comes to Toronto).
If approved, a plaque will be used to mark the concert venue as "1 Taylor Swift Way".
After Swift's performances, all the plaques will be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank and auctioned off in support of this organization.
"After Swift's fans leave the singer's exhilarating concert, they should be able to take a leisurely stroll down Taylor Swift Way and take photos with these memorable signs," McKelvey said in a news release.
This plan will be reviewed by the mayor and city council members on July 25.
Swift will be the first artist to play six shows at the Rogers Center. It is also his first tour in Canada since 2018.
Rogers will sponsor Taylor Swift's concerts in Toronto.
