Elon Musk claims X platform was hit by a “massive cyberattack”
Elon Musk said that the social networking platform X (formerly known as Twitter) was hit by a “massive cyberattack” on Monday, with the platform experiencing widespread outages and disruptions throughout the morning and early afternoon.
Musk wrote in a post:
“We get attacked every day, but this one was done with a lot of resources. Either a large coordinated group is involved or even a country is behind this attack.”
Previous Associated Press news:
The social networking platform X has been hit by a disruption that has been tracked by a third-party website.
According to data published on the Downdetector website, which monitors outages on various online platforms, tens of thousands of users in the United States and Canada have been reported to be out of service.
The outages began on Monday morning, with the X platform reportedly experiencing a peak of user complaints at 6am and again at 10am. More than 40,000 users reported being disconnected from the platform. Another wave of outage reports continued around noon, and the problem is still not resolved.
The Canadian domain of Downdetector also saw more than 4,000 outage reports just after 10am.
The website said that 56% of the reported issues were related to the X app and 33% to its web version.
It is worth noting that in March 2023, when the platform was still called Twitter, it faced widespread problems for more than an hour, including broken links, users unable to log in, and images not loading for some users.
