Unionized workers at Canada Post to start voting on contract offer
The Canadian Postal Workers Union has urged its members to reject the offer.
Canada Post and the union representing about 55,000 postal workers have reached an impasse after more than a year and a half of negotiations.
The vote comes after federal Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu asked the Canada Industrial Relations Board to step in and put Canada Post’s latest offer to a vote.
The offer includes a pay increase of about 13 per cent over four years, but also adds part-time workers, who Canada Post says are essential to maintaining postal service.
The union’s national president, John Simpson, said a strong vote in favor of rejecting the offer would not only reject the offer itself, but also protect the integrity of the bargaining process.
