Alaska Airlines resumes operations after tech outage grounds all flights

Alaska Airlines has resumed operations after a technical glitch that grounded all flights, the airline said, which lasted for three hours.

The airline experienced an “IT outage” around 8 p.m. Pacific time on Sunday that temporarily grounded all flights for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. The outage was lifted at 11 p.m.

“There will likely be residual impacts to our flights as we return the aircraft and crew to their respective locations,” the airline said in a social media post.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) website also lists the suspension of all flights for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, which is a subsidiary of Alaska Airlines.

The National Transportation Safety Board last month awarded the crew of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 a lifesaving award for a rescue mission in which a door panel detached from the plane after takeoff, creating a hole that sucked objects out.

Also in September, Alaska Airlines said it was temporarily grounding its Seattle-bound flights due to “significant disruptions” caused by an unspecified technological issue that would be resolved within hours.
