Missing Canadian girl found dYork state, U.S. officers say
Police in northeastern New York have found the body of a missing nine-year-old Canadian girl.
A news release from the New York State Police says officers with the Warren County Sheriff's Office received a report from a man who reported his nine-year-old daughter missing in the area of Exit 22 of I-87 in Lake George, possibly due to a kidnapping, just before 10 p.m. Saturday.
The child was identified as Melina Fratolin, a resident of Canada, and her father, 45-year-old Luciano Fratolin, was identified as the child's father, Luciano Fratolin, the statement said.
The Warren County Sheriff's Office initially led the investigation, but as the case progressed, officers identified inconsistencies in the father's account of what happened and when Melina disappeared.
With the help of several local police departments, Melina was found Sunday in Ticonderoga, New York, about 30 miles northeast of Lake George near the New York-Vermont border, the New York State Police said.
The investigation has been handed over to the New York State Police, who currently say there is no indication of a kidnapping and no threat to the public.
The news release did not mention charges, and the New York State Police said a news conference will be held on Monday.
