Canadian doctors are concerned about the increase in waiting time for patients in the emergency room
In the season of outbreak of respiratory viruses, Canadian emergency doctors are concerned about the increase in waiting time. Although the Ontario government did not provide new information, the latest information about the waiting time of people in November shows that patients in the province's hospitals average more than They waited in the emergency room for 22 hours before they could be hospitalized.
"In the last year, we've added more than 17,000 new nurses and 2,400 new doctors, and the government is investing $44 million to help emergency departments," Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones' office said of concerns for emergency physicians.
But according to doctors, the biggest factor in the increase in emergency room waiting time is not the personnel issue, but the lack of hospital beds for patients.
Liberal Party MP Dr. Adel Shamji acknowledged that the season of respiratory viruses has always been challenging for the health care system. But the current situation is caused by the allocation of "low budget" by the current government and ignoring the main causes of this crisis.
"We are witnessing an epidemic, moral damage, burnout, and demoralization among our nurses, paramedics, and of course our doctors," Dr. Shamji said. "We are also seeing a massive exodus of nurses and family doctors from the health care system, which has increased the pressure on the primary care system, and as a result, people have no choice but to go to the emergency department."
