The death of two people due to the consumption of herbal milks has been recalled

The Public Health Organization of Canada announced on Wednesday that two people have died after consuming plant-based milks contaminated with Listeria bacteria.

Silk brand almond milk, coconut milk, almond-coconut milk and oat milk, as well as Great Value brand almond milk, were recalled earlier this month.

According to media reports, many of the recalled products have a best before date of October 4.

The agency did not provide details on the deaths in an announcement Wednesday but said there were 12 confirmed cases of the disease. So that 10 cases were in Ontario and Quebec and Nova Scotia had one case each. Affected people are between 37 and 89 years old and 67% of cases were in women. These people are said to have fallen ill between August 2023 and early July 2024.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, listeria-contaminated produce may not look or smell rotten, but it can still make you sick.

Symptoms of this disease can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle pain, severe headache, and neck stiffness.

Although pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, it can still lead to premature birth, infant infection, or stillbirth.
