Ontario man arrested for scratch lottery ticket fraud

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced that a 44-year-old man, Stephen Michael Day, has been arrested in Toronto for lottery ticket fraud.

Day came under investigation in October 2023 after several Toronto residents complained their lottery tickets had been scratched in advance, police said.

After examining the store's CCTV cameras and interviewing witnesses, the police officers found out that D scratched the lottery tickets in several places and then placed them in the ticket window without the knowledge of the store attendants.

Day has been charged with four counts of fraud under $5,000 and four counts of theft under $5,000. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on February 15, 2024.
