Of a drone to transport laboratory samples between two hospitals in Ontario for the first time

Halton Health Center has recently utilized drones for the transportation of medical samples and equipment between two hospitals in Ontario. The drone covered a distance of 13 kilometers between the Milton area hospital and the Oakville-Trafalgar hospital. The new agreement between the hospital network and the Unmanned Aircraft Company was reached four months after the former federal Minister of Transport granted permission for the expansion of safety regulations for unmanned aircraft for such applications in Canada. The use of unmanned aircraft for delivering medical equipment and samples provides a significant opportunity for improving hospital operations and patient care.

Improving Hospital Operations and Patient Care

Hilary Rodriguez, Senior Deputy of Health and Treatment at Halton, stated, "The use of unmanned aircraft for delivering medical equipment offers a notable opportunity for enhancing overall hospital services and patient care.

" Rodriguez pointed out that without traffic constraints, drones can ensure that the Oakville network's initial laboratories receive vital materials and samples sooner than other transportation methods. "Patients waiting for the results of their tests may sometimes face delays due to transportation issues," Rodriguez told Global News. Therefore, the faster we can transfer those critical results to the clinic, the quicker patient care can be provided."
