'He averted a catastrophe': Parent praises bus driver after 18-wheeler fell from overpass above
A bus driver in Nova Scotia has been commended for his quick and courageous response. He was able to prevent the school bus from colliding with a tractor trailer that had fallen from the flyover.
No one was injured in the crash on Highway 102 near Bedford on Thursday. By braking in time and keeping his cool, the bus driver prevented the bus from overturning and causing a big disaster.
Matthew Byrd's stepsons, who were on the bus, sent him pictures after the accident. They say that the bus driver was able to keep them calm during those terrifying moments with his calmness.
The Halifax Regional Center for Education plans to formally honor this brave driver.
The police are investigating the cause of the accident, but so far no evidence has been found that the tractor trailer driver was driving criminally.
The Nova Scotia Department of Transportation said the damaged flyover and guardrail are being repaired and a temporary barrier has been installed to prevent similar incidents.
