Long weekend snow forecast in British Columbia's mountain passes
It's the last week of the first month of summer, but some highways in British Columbia looked more like winter on Friday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a special weather statement for the Kuki Hala Highway, Okanagan Connector, Allison Pass and Kootenay Pass, warning that snow accumulation is possible in these areas through Sunday morning.
The Bureau of Meteorology reissued the statement this morning, saying that snowfall amounts of two to five centimeters could be seen and "amounts are likely to be higher."
Highway cameras recorded the congestion on the roads on Friday.
"A cold and unsettled air mass will be in British Columbia this final week," the ECCC statement said. "Shipping routes may be affected. They should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions."
