Vancouver cruise ships break records.
Cruise ships at Vancouver's Canada Place terminal, located in the city center, have broken historical records in passenger volume. When Holland America Line's Koningsdam cruise ship departs as the last cruise ship of 2023 tomorrow, it can be announced that a total of more than 1.25 million passengers have passed through this point this year. This not only shatters pre-COVID-19 records but also reflects a 54% increase in the number of passengers compared to 815,000 passengers in 2022. In 2023, there have been no health restrictions on cruise ships.
During the 2023 season, which began in April, 332 cruise trips have taken place, marking a 9% increase in the number of trips compared to 2022. The previous record was for 2019 when around 1.1 million passengers traveled on 288 cruise ships. The cruise ships' occupancy rate during the season has averaged 95%, reaching 96% in the summer.
