U.S. safety agency ends probe of Tesla suspension failures without seeking a recall
The U.S. Safety Agency's U.S. investigation into the use of information on about 7,500 vehicles sent without a recall request has been closed.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in documents released Wednesday that it found 426 reports of the 2015-2017 model year and the 2016-2017 Model X. A non-injury accident was reported.
But the agency finds in tests and complaints that drivers can still hold the Tesla if the front linkage fails. Therefore, it was decided to close the investigation that started in November 2020.
Tesla ran a satisfaction campaign in 2017 to replace the front links of some cars. But NHTSA said that doesn't cover 75 percent of the failures identified in its investigation. The agency recommended that Tesla expand the replacement program.
