Snow warning for parts of Metro Vancouver
Environment Canada had issued a series of weather warnings throughout the day as a frontal system brought wind and snow to several parts of the province. B.C. According to Environment Canada and Climate Change (ECCC), "a strong rain mass will move in from the south coast today."
Up to five centimeters of snow is expected in Metro Vancouver, which Environment Canada warns will cause reduced visibility and muddy or slippery road conditions. The warning states: "Snow melts first on contact with the surface, reducing total snowfall accumulation." However, where the rainfall is higher, close to 5 cm of snow accumulates. "Surfaces such as highways, roads, driveways and parking lots may become difficult to drive through due to snow accumulation."
The Sunshine Coast, eastern and inner Vancouver Island, Malahat Highway and Port Alberni are expected to receive between 2 and 10 cm of snow before turning to rain Saturday evening.
