Recall of energy drinks due to the presence of dangerous caffeine

Forty-five brands of energy drinks have recently been recalled in Canada, with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency deeming them unsafe due to "caffeine levels and labeling issues."

People across the country have been asked to refrain from distributing, selling and consuming drinks in the category of products with the names "Toxic Rick", "Liquid Rage", "Fast Twitch" and "Cocaine".

Other names include Fleeb Juice, Bum Energy, Bleach T4-F and a can with a picture of 80s and 90s artist Bob Ross, drinks from famous brands such as Red Bull, Monster, Prime, G Fuel, Bang, 5 Hour Energy and supplier of AriZona Iced Tea are also listed.

The Food Inspection Organization has recalled the mentioned products from the market due to non-compliance with the permitted amount of caffeine and labeling requirements.

He went on to explain that caffeinated energy drinks must have descriptions in both English and French on the can. They must also include cautionary statements about the risks of consumption that "help consumers make an informed decision." The organization announced that the maximum amount of caffeine allowed in Canada is 180 milligrams per can.

The recall comes as the safety of such drinks is under scrutiny. Panera Bread is currently facing a lawsuit alleging that its caffeinated lemonade led to the deaths of two people in the United States, both of whom suffered heart attacks.
