Police arrest Toronto woman in connection with three recent homicides
Police have arrested a Toronto woman in connection with three recent murders. The investigators of the case believe that two of the victims were probably targeted "completely by accident".
These murders occurred this week in the cities of Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara Region.
The first incident involved a woman in her 60s who was found in a home near Kyle and Dundas streets in Toronto on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the second incident happened the next day at John Allen Park in Niagara Falls. Officers were dispatched to the park shortly before 3pm following reports of a fight. At the scene, they found an adult man with serious injuries. The victim, later identified as 47-year-old Lance Cunningham, died at the scene.
The third incident happened at around 12:30pm on Thursday in Hamilton.
Police say officers found a man unconscious in a parking lot on North McNab Street with "significant stab wounds." The victim, later identified as Mario Bilic, was rushed to hospital but later died.
According to a statement released by Toronto police, "Investigators were able to connect the recent homicide case of 47-year-old Lance Cunningham at John Allen Park in Niagara Falls to this homicide because the suspect matched the descriptions in both cases. Another connection was made with the ongoing murder case that started in Toronto on October 1st.
Sabrina Calder, 30, was arrested in Burlington on Thursday around 5:45 p.m.
He has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Toronto murder and two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the other murders.
Police say they believe Bilic and Cunningham were targeted "purely at random," while the suspect was known to the Toronto victim.
The investigation into these murders is still ongoing.
Police say investigators are seeking to speak with anyone who may have seen Calder between Oct. 1 and Oct. 3 "to establish a timeline of events."
"Detectives are also trying to identify another woman who was seen Oct. 1 on surveillance video at the Giant Tiger store located at 2025 Gulf Line in Burlington shopping for the clothes Calder was wearing at the time of her arrest. "
