Most Canadian immigrants feel they are unfairly blamed for the housing crisis

As the housing price crisis continues to affect Canadians across the country, most immigrants feel they are being unfairly blamed.

The Leger poll, conducted exclusively for OMNI, shows that nearly seven in 10 immigrants think politicians are using immigration as a "false agenda" to divert attention from other factors contributing to the housing crisis (such as government policies and economic conditions).

The federal government plans to increase the share of temporary residents from 6.5% to 5% of the total Canadian population.

According to one housing expert, however, a "relatively high number of immigrants" does not necessarily mean that newcomers are responsible for the high cost of housing. A big issue is that some areas have a higher percentage of the population of new immigrants than in the past, and as a result they are being used as victims of the housing crisis.

Experts believe that politicians victimize immigrants even though they are not responsible for affordable housing.

An OMNI-Leger survey found that buying a home is a dream of 85 percent of newcomers, more than doubling from last year.

Overall, 54 percent of immigrants feel they are being blamed for a problem they did not cause.
