Elon Musk responds to Doug Ford’s decision to axe $100M Starlink deal
**TORONTO** – Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that the province is canceling a $100 million contract with Elon Musk’s Starlink company. The move is in response to **25 per cent tariffs** recently imposed by **US President Donald Trump** on Canadian goods.
Ford also stressed that **Ontario will no longer award government contracts to American companies** unless the tariffs are lifted.
The agreement, signed **last November**, was intended to provide **high-speed internet to 15,000 residents of rural Ontario**.
After the cancellation, **Elon Musk**, CEO of **SpaceX** (Starlink's parent company) and head of the **Trump administration's Department of Productivity**, wrote in a short response on the **X** social media platform: **"Well, what can you do!"**
Ford clarified that **Ontario has not yet made any payments to Starlink** and is **prepared to face any potential legal challenges**. He also announced **plans to develop domestic solutions** to provide high-speed internet to rural areas, but **warned that this plan could take up to two years** because the current infrastructure is not meeting the need.
