"India's expelled ambassador: political relations with Canada are under the shadow of mistrust"
India's high envoy to Canada, who has been expelled, says that while economic ties between Canada and India are likely to be maintained, the political relationship is now fraught with "mistrust."
Sanjay Kumar Verma, in an exclusive interview with CTV's Parsman that aired on Sunday, said any decision India takes on replacing him and his expelled colleagues would require "discussion" between the two governments.
He also blamed the Trudeau government for not curtailing the activities of the Sikh separatist movement operating in Canada and elements of it that India considers extremist.
Verma emphasized that India's security and sovereignty concerns in this matter are very serious and believes that the Canadian government has not cooperated sufficiently in these matters.
