Implementation of a pilot project of reusable containers in some stores in Ottawa
To reduce single-use plastics in grocery stores, a new federal pilot project will soon be implemented in Ottawa.
In this project, from the end of April, reusable containers will be distributed in Walmart, Sobeys and Metro stores in a certain area of Ottawa. Customers can purchase certain food items in these types of containers, then return them to locations inside and outside the stores.
According to experts, it is hoped that this program will eventually be implemented in other food centers such as restaurants and other parts of the country. This pilot project will continue until March 2025.
