Effects of Inflation on Thanksgiving Day in Canada
As Thanksgiving approaches, a time when tables are filled with delicious turkeys and treats, we are faced with a significant increase in food prices. By the end of summer 2023, food prices have risen by an average of 6.8 percent compared to August 2022. Additionally, reports indicate that a cooked turkey is now priced at $119.99, while other poultry products are selling for $59.99.
Analyses suggest that in 2023, the cost of food, particularly items like vegetables, dairy, and meat, is expected to increase by 5 to 7 percent in Canada. This price hike encompasses butter, vegetables, meat, wine, and processed products as well. Sylvain Charlebois, a national food researcher, emphasizes that food expenses in Canada are noticeably on the rise in 2023, and we must prepare to face this situation.
