Canada faces a series of 'crises' that will test it in the coming years, RCMP warns
Canada faces a series of "crises" in the coming years that will strain and test the country, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has warned in a report.
The report, which was recently released, broadly addresses the challenges facing Canada, including:
Climate change crisis: Global warming, more intense natural light and climate variability threaten the safety and security of Canadians.
Economic crisis: increasing economic inequality, high inflation, and economic growth can lead to social and political unrest.
Security Crisis: Rising cybercrime, terrorism, and geopolitical tensions threaten Canada's national security.
Social Crisis: Increased social tensions caused by racism, discrimination, and social inequalities can harm Canada's national cohesion.
These crises will act synergistically, creating complex challenges for government and society, the RCMP reports.
The report also calls for immediate and coordinated action by the government, the special sector, and civil society to deal with these crises.
Some of the suggestions in this report are:
Investment in green and sustainable infrastructure
Reducing dependence on fossil fuels
Health Care Enhancement System
Reducing economic and social inequalities
Strengthening education
Creating new job opportunities
Promoting peace and reconciliation
The RCMP report warns that if Canada takes action to deal with these crises, it will be faced with dire and some irreversible messages.
The report also acknowledges that Canada's future can be done today
