A couple became millionaires after playing the lottery for 38 years in 2024
A Nova Scotia couple named Wayne Monroe and Jill Clawson Monroe have been buying Lotto 649 tickets since 1986. 40 years later, they won the Atlantic Lottery's $5 million classic jackpot during the 11th drawing.
Wayne Monroe said, "I used to wake up and the first thing I do is check the lottery tickets, because I always said if I got rich, I wouldn't go to work." Jill said, "I don't have to stress anymore." We have money and we take care of our son, we are at ease."
Wayne also plans to use some of the prize money to buy a new truck. According to the Atlantic Lottery, all six of Wayne and Jill's tickets matched the classic jackpot, and as a result, they won the multi-million dollar lottery.
The winning ticket was purchased at Sobeys in New Glasgow. One percent of the prize amount goes to the store owner.
