According to a survey conducted by Nanos Research, Canadians blame grocery stores more than anything else for rising food prices.
The survey was conducted earlier this week and included more than 1,000 Canadians aged 18 and over.
32 percent of respondents said that grocery stores are the number one reason for sharp increases in food prices, compared to 28 percent in 2023. More than 20 percent of people blamed rising fuel costs. which has increased three percent compared to last year.
Canadians have to pay a significant price for their food today, starting with all the covid-19 and continuing. Food prices in Canada rose by almost 22 percent between February 2021 and February 2024, the central bank said.
Survey respondents also blamed food production itself for rising food prices, as well as climate events, the Trudeau government, the carbon tax, or a combination of all of them.
