Recall of over 117,000 BlendJet portable blenders due to fire hazard

BlendJe is recalling 117,286 of its portable blenders in Canada and 4.8 million units in the United States due to damage and fire hazards after receiving dozens of damage reports.

The recall notice issued by Health Canada warns that the now-recalled BlendJet 2 portable blenders may overheat or catch fire, and the blender blades may break during use.
As of Dec. 14, the company has received one report of a fire and typically 10 reports of broken metal blades in Canada, with no injuries reported in Canada.
Outside of Canada, the company has had approximately 319 reports of blades breaking during use and 16 reports of overheating or fires resulting in a financial cost of approximately US$150,000. Injuries in the United States include reports of about 49 minor burns and one minor laceration.

In a joint recall with the US Food and Drug Administration, Health Canada is asking consumers to immediately recall BlendJet 2 portable blenders and contact BlendJet for a free replacement.

The recall covers units in colors with serial numbers starting with the digits 5201 through 5542 that were sold approximately between October 2020 and August 2023.

The California-based company says BlendJet 2 blenders that are currently available for purchase through the company's website and retail partners are not affected by the recall.
