NCC recommends 'walking over skating' with Rideau Canal Skateway set to reopen

Due to the unfavorable weather conditions, the National Capital Commission (NCC) recommends walking on the Rideau Canal Skateway instead of skating for Monday, February 20, 2024 (1 March 1402).

Reasons for this recommendation:

Snowfall and rain in recent days have created weak and uneven ice on the surface of the channel.
The temperature will rise significantly on Monday and there is a chance of rain.
These conditions can increase the risk of skaters slipping and falling.
