The O-Train slowly rolled east of Blair Station for the first time Sunday morning as construction continues on Phase 2 of the Ottawa light rail transit project.
In a memo to council Monday morning, OC Transpo Interim General Manager Michael Morgan said the Alstom Citadis Spirit train will run from Bloor Station to Montreal Station for the "first time" since the end of the regular O-Train line on O-Train East.
"The train was accompanied by a pedestrian to check the connection between the pantograph of the train and the OCS while the train was moving," he said. .
Additional tests between Blair Station and Montreal Station are expected this week as crews continue to test and validate the system (overhead catenary system).
It says OC Transpo will run a train east of Blair Station following test activities including track setup, traction post tests and testing of overhead crossing systems.
As part of Phase 2 of the Ottawa LRT system, the Confederation Line will be extended 12.5 kilometers east from Blair Station to Trim Road, with five new stations at Montreal Road, Jeanne d'Arc Boulevard, Convent Glen, Place Orleans and Trim. Road. .
"Testing of the train control system is expected to begin this spring, after which residents will have regular, low-speed tests on the line."
OC Transpo has said that full service on the eastern extension of the LRT system is expected to begin in late spring 2025.
The westward extension of the Confederation Line to Algonquin College and Moodie Drive is expected to begin in 2026, 17 months behind schedule.
The new north-south Trillium line between Bayview Station and Riverside South is expected to open in the spring.
Ottawa's light rail subcommittee will receive an update on LRT construction on Thursday.
