StatCan says a slight decrease in human trafficking incidents has been reported since 2021
After an annual increase in human trafficking since 2012, new Statistics Canada data shows a slight downward trend in police-reported incidents over the past two years.
According to reports compiled through the Uniform Crime Reporting Review, Statistics Canada estimates a total of 512 human trafficking offenses for 2023, down slightly from the 528 reported in 2022. Statistics Canada data shows that the peak of human trafficking incidents occurred in 2021 with 555 incidents reported by the police.
