Sask. police watchdog says RCMP discharged guns in fatal Fishing Lake First Nation incident
Saskatchewan's Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) says it has determined RCMP officers fired their weapons during their investigation into a fatal incident on prime fishing ground that left a 34-year-old man dead.
The victim of the accident was identified as 34-year-old Joseph "Joey" Dejarli. He died after a police chase in a van through prime fishing grounds in which shots were fired.
Dejarli was a wanted suspect linked to a long list of armed robberies across east-central Saskatchewan.
Police say around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 24, a white van, later identified as Joseph Desjarly, was seen speeding through the prime fishing grounds.
