Possible Listeria contamination leads to the recall of Rana brand sauce: CFIA
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for Rana's Tagliatelle Seasoned White Chicken and Mushroom sauce due to possible Listeria contamination.
This product is distributed across Canada. People are asked not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute this product. The recalled product must be discarded or returned to the store where it was purchased.
Food contaminated with listeria may not necessarily look or smell bad, but it can cause illness.
Affected individuals may experience vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle pain, severe headache, and neck stiffness. In severe cases, the disease can be fatal, the CFIA says.
"Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are especially at risk. "Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature birth, infection of the baby, or even miscarriage."
If you get sick from consuming the recalled product, you should consult your doctor.
In a statement to CTV News, Rana Meal Solutions said the affected product is "one meal kit and part of a much larger recall involving a chicken supplier in Oklahoma."
“Following USDA and CFIA guidelines, Rana Meal Solutions is recalling Rana Brand Tagliatelle Seasoned White Chicken and Mushroom Sauce Meal Kit due to a recall by one of our suppliers, BrucePac. "The BrucePac recall is due to possible Listeria contamination of some BrucePac chicken products that were separately included in this special RANA meal kit."
"The chicken associated with the BrucePac recall included in the Tagliatelle Seasoned White Chicken and Mushroom Sauce meal kit should not be consumed. So far, there are no confirmed reports of adverse health effects from the use of this product.
"Products from the recalled categories are eligible for a full refund. Please return the damaged unused kit and proof of purchase to the original place of purchase for a refund.”
