Ottawa's Rideau Canal still isn't open for skating, despite cold weather
Even with below-normal temperatures for winter, Ottawa is having another weekend without skating on the Rideau Canal.
The National Capital Commission, which manages the famous skating rink, says it is now reassessing ice conditions after the city had enough cold weather last week.
NCC hopes to reopen soon, spokeswoman Sophia Bangalon said Friday.
"We've been making the most of the cold weather, which has helped prepare our skateway and our crews have been working hard," he said.
This 7.8 km long skateway is called the largest skating rink in the world.
It has not announced the opening date of this channel and only says that it is considering the next steps.
The canal was not opened for skating last winter for the first time in its history, and this year concerns about its fate are high in the city.
The commission even took to social media to test the freezing temperatures needed to create a safe surface for skating.
