Montreal's summer tourism industry is seeing a return to pre-pandemic levels
Montreal's tourism industry saw numbers return to pre-pandemic levels this summer, according to a report by Tourisme Montréal.
The latest data released Thursday by Montreal's tourism industry said last summer saw 15 percent more outbound travelers compared to the same period in 2019, before the pandemic.
The average hotel occupancy in this city was 80% and the total income was higher than in 2022.
Business conferences and conventions experienced a 72% increase in in-person participation rates at major events, up 12% from 2022.
Tourisme Montréal's president and CEO, Yves Lalumière, reports that the organization's promotional efforts are paying off, as the number of potential visitors to the organization's website has increased this year.
Tourisme Montréal predicts that the post-pandemic surge may continue for the metropolis, as many major conferences have been confirmed for next year, notably the International Figure Skating Union, which welcomes some 7,000 delegates in March.
In August, the Canadian Premier Basketball League will attract about 10,000 participants, while in September, about 5,000 golfers and fans will descend on Montreal for the President's Cup.
