Earth set a new record for heat in March
The European Union's Copernicus Meteorological Organization announced that for the 10th month in a row, Earth set a new record for global warmth in March, with both air and ocean temperatures reaching record highs this month. According to Copernicus data, the temperature in March 2024 reached an average of 14.14 degrees Celsius (57.9 degrees Fahrenheit), which was a tenth of a degree higher than the previous record in 2016. Since last June, the planet has broken the heat record every month. The warm sea waves in large areas of the world's oceans have contributed to it. According to scientists, the record-breaking heat during this period was due to the presence of the strong El Nino phenomenon; The El Niño phenomenon is a weather condition that warms the central Pacific Ocean and changes global weather patterns.
Scientists attribute other reasons for this unprecedented heat to climate change caused by carbon dioxide and methane emissions from burning coal, oil, and natural gas. According to them, this trend will not change until the increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is stopped, which means that we must stop burning fossil fuels and deforestation. In March, sea surface temperatures averaged 21.07 °C (69.93 °F), the highest monthly value on record and slightly higher than February's figure.
