Extensive Christmas decorations in Queen's Park to attract people
Queen’s Park’s extensive Christmas decorations draw crowds
This year, the Christmas spirit is more evident than ever at Queen’s Park, as the interior and exterior of the Ontario Parliament Building are decked out in a vast array of lights, trees and decorations.
In addition to the tree and shrub lighting, the exterior features illuminated deer statues and entrance lights, giving a fresh look to one of the province’s oldest government buildings. The interior is also decorated with numerous trees, giant garlands, light tunnels and plenty of poinsettias.
Speaker Donna Scully says her goal is to make the Parliament building more inviting for students, families and public tours, and to increase public engagement with the institution.
According to the documents, $500,000 was earmarked for the purchase of the decor, but Scully stressed that much of this year’s equipment was rented and the actual costs were well below the budget.
During the holiday season, events will include a craft market, live performances, a nightly lighting, a visit with Santa Claus and a public viewing at Queen’s Park.
