Doctors can now prescribe a day trip to the Toronto Zoo for their patients
Healthcare specialists in Ontario are now recommending a one-day trip to the Toronto Zoo for their patients. Zoo authorities announced this on Thursday, stating that this initiative aims to improve the mental and physical well-being of individuals. Dolph de Jong, CEO of the Toronto Zoo, explained, "A visit to the zoo is not just about seeing animals and learning about their conservation; it's about experiencing a 10-kilometer walk in a safe and beautiful environment."
The Toronto Zoo referred to research indicating the positive impact of nature on health, including the improvement of depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults, and a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke. According to scientific studies published in Frontiers, when urban dwellers connect with nature, their negative emotions significantly decrease. Direct interaction with nature, especially animals, enhances positive mental states, and being in green spaces increases emotional well-being for many individuals. These recommendations are backed by scientific research and contribute to enhancing the quality of life for people.
