Community mourns Ontario man killed in collision with unmarked OPP vehicle

A Midland, Ontario man named Noah Landreault has died after being hit by an unmarked police vehicle.

An outpouring of tributes has poured in for Noah Landreault, 25, who was confirmed dead on Sunday, September 29, 2024. He was known as a kind and high-spirited person.

Fatal accident

According to reports, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said the young man was on foot when he collided with a police car at 169 Muskoka Road in Upper at around 6am on Sunday. The organization says he was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Honoring his memory

The Midland Titans lacrosse organization wrote on social media that Landreault was a "talented player with a kind heart."

"Aurelia Jr. Bay Kings" club also wrote about his death: "Noah as a player and coach always brings energy and passion to the field. His positive attitude and love for the game was contagious."

The West Durham Ironheads Junior B lacrosse organization also noted, "Noah's smile lit up any room and his positive attitude will forever leave a lasting impression on our club."

At the time of writing, a GoFundMe campaign set up in Landreault's name has raised more than $38,000 with more than 400 donations for her family.

The campaign, organized by Monica Smith, says Laundreault worked part-time at The Kee to Bala bar and had a full-time job at Muskaka sauna company.

It reads in part: "He loved sports (especially lacrosse), his family and hanging out with his friends. As a young man, Noah was finding his place in this world when this happened.

Research in progress

Several SIU investigators assigned to the case are investigating what happened that morning. The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates any police conduct that may result in the death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or firing of a weapon.
