A woman in Quebec was arrested on charges of first-degree murder of a five-year-old boy
A 29-year-old Quebec woman has been arrested on charges of first-degree murder of a five-year-old boy southwest of Montreal.
Quebec Provincial Police were called to a home in Cateau-du-Lac, Quebec around 3 a.m. Wednesday and found the boy unconscious. He died a short time later in the hospital.
Police declined to confirm the woman's relationship with the boy, but a source confirmed to Novotel that the woman was the child's mother.
A spokesperson for Quebec's attorney general's office says a request for an information ban is expected to be filed, which would prohibit the release of any information that would lead to the child's identification.
Two other people inside the home were taken to the hospital and are scheduled to speak with investigators.
Earlier on Tuesday, crime scene experts were at the scene and investigators were looking to speak to anyone who had seen the child in the past 24 hours.
